<br /><br />The dominant winner of this weeks Bendigo Cup SEA KING(GB) will join our stable after he runs in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup.&nbsp; Currently the fourth pick in betting for the race that stops the nation SEA KING(GB) was purchased by us in a partnership with OTI Racing.<br /><br />The horse is raced by our owners Steve and Maree Anderson, Ian and Judi Cornell, Phil Sullivan's Goldmount Racing, Mark and Cherilyn Lowe, David Coghlan, Warren Watts, Mark Evans, Jason Benz, the very large Nose Hair Syndicate and Grace Solomon-Innes.<br /><br />We had been looking for another import, something we'd like to do an a slightly more regular basis, and after considering others Neil jumped on to this horse immediately.&nbsp; He came out of a race that is known to be a great guide to form in Australia and then when we saw the vision of him parading at Sir Mark Prescott's stable we fell in love with him, he is the most beautiful horse and a great athlete.&nbsp; To be fair we thought he would be a decent chance in a Sydney Cup and a strong chance in the Brisbane Cup when we bought him so to have him win at Bendigo as he did and now be well in the market for the Melbourne Cup will be a dream come true for our owners.&nbsp;<br /><br />We agreed that he should run in Victoria for his new owners as the prize money is excellent and he arrived in such good order and all credit to Harry Eustace and his team for the way they have prepared him.&nbsp; He showed a turn of foot on Wednesday that we haven't seen before and perhaps working with a sharper horse like DOCKLANDS has switched him on a bit.&nbsp; Damian Lane gave him a very good wrap for the way he felt when he worked at Moonee Valley a couple of weeks back and when good jockeys with his experience tell you that he worked well and felt really god you know you are on the right track.<br /><br />We are fortunate to have such a great working relationship with Terry, Gus and Shane at OTI and going into partnership again on this horse who we thought represented great value was easy to do.<br /><br />Neil was at Bendigo on Wednesday and when we spoke after the race he was full of praise for the way the horse presented and the improvement that is to come from that race.&nbsp; I will fly down so that I can see the horse myself on Monday morning and to talk to Harry Eustace about him and see what I can learn from him before the horse transfers to me.<br /><br />I would like to thank his new owners for being part of the new chapter in SEA KING's journey and I hope they get the lions share of the prize money on Tuesday and I look forward to having him join my stable soon there after.<br /><br /><br /><br />

<p>Sea King has made a powerful impression in his local debut, cruising to victory in Wednesday's 2400-metre Group 3 Bendigo Cup.</p>
<p>The OTI Racing-owned British import drifted from $4.60 to $7 in the days before the race, but the latter price was snapped up as he shortened to $5.50 just before jump time and the late money was spot on.</p>
<p>Declan Bates found a midfield spot off the rail and stayed there until the 1000-metre mark, where he eased out three-wide and allowed his mount to stride around the field.</p>
<p>Sea King was four wide around the home bend but still comfortably found the front and rail by the time he straightened up and the race was essentially over from there.</p>
<p>Berkeley Square and Star Vega chased valiantly but were a class below the Harry Eustace-trained stayer, who streaked clear to score by just under three lengths.</p>

<p>Sea King is now an $11 chance for the Melbourne Cup, in from the $51 available before the demolition job.</p>
<p>It was a thrilling result for Eustace, whose galloper will take a Cup spot after initially being bought as a - albeit very well-credentialed - mate for Cox Plate runner Docklands.</p>
<p>"It's incredibly exciting. A lot was riding on it, it's the last win-and-you're-in (spot) for the Cup, so it's an absolute dream result today," he said.</p>
<p>"I'd just like to thank (OTI's) Terry (Henderson) in particular, he managed to buy this horse just before Docklands travelled down as well and it's proving a pretty inspired purchase.</p>
<p>"Curiously, coming down, we never even thought we'd get close (to a Cup Spot) and, of course, since we've been here the Cup, as everyone is well aware, has really started cutting up, so the closer we got to getting in, the more pressure there was I suppose."</p>

<p>He also praised Bates for riding Sea King to its absolute strengths, with the gun hoop's mid-race move taking a dreaded sit-and-sprint finish out of the equation.</p>
<p>In Eustace's words, it was a much more European style of ride.</p>
<p>"It was just a beautiful ride from Dec Bates. We picked him because hopefully he'd understand the European style and it wouldn't be a sit-and-sprint," Eustace said.</p>
<p>"He just gave him a great ride and rode him full of coincidence. It (the mid-race move) felt like it was quite a long way out, but I was very keen to impress on him that he was more of a typical European-type horse and he's going to work his way into it.</p>
<p>"He took me at my word and it came off today."</p>

<p>Astute trainer Matt Dunn has always had a big opinion of promising colt Climactic (3c&nbsp;<a href="https://coolmore.com/farms/australia/stallions/yes-yes-yes">Yes Yes Yes</a>&nbsp;x Snitzel's Joy, by Snitzel), who opened his account with an impressive victory on Wednesday.</p>
<p>Dunn sent him to Sydney for last year&rsquo;s $1million ATC Golden Gift won by Shangri La Express and while he could finish only a brave fourth that day on debut beaten two lengths, he made light work of a maiden at the Sunshine Coast.</p>
<p>Given a lengthy spell after his Golden Gift run Climactic looked good winning two barrier trials last month before resuming to finish third as favourite at Doomben on August 3, but with better fitness and a step to 1200m the good looking colt bounced back in style.</p>
<p>Ridden by James Orman, Climactic surged to the lead after turning for home and coasted to the line to win by more than two lengths in a canter.</p>
<p>A $110,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale purchase for Matthew Dunn/Neil Jenkinson Pty Ltd from the Telemon Thoroughbreds draft, Climactic is the first winner from metro winning Snitzel mare Snitzel&rsquo;s Joy, a grand-daughter of Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Dancer&rsquo;s Joy.</p>
<p>Snitzel&rsquo;s Joy was one of 149 mares covered last spring by Everest hero Yes Yes Yes, who is priced this spring at $19,250.</p>
<p>Climactic is the sixth first crop winner for Yes Yes Yes, who has sired five stakes horses and is his third winner of the new racing season.</p>

Promising Winner for Yes Yes Yes

<p class="SlateElement">Nash Rawiller has labelled&nbsp;<strong>Cepheus</strong>&nbsp;(GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) a "warhorse" following the 8-year-old's fourth stakes success in the Listed Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury on Thursday. &ldquo;He's been a great old horse,&rdquo; Rawiller told Sky Thoroughbred Central.</p>

<br />Barry Charman, a loved member of our staff since 2009, passed away 19 July, 2024, at the age of 75. Barry or Baz as he was known to us was a kind and generous person whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.<br /><br />He was a worker, he was our first starter every morning without fail.&nbsp; He'd arrive at 2.30am so that he could diligently get through the work that he had each morning before the arrival of the rest of the staff who might slow his progress and he made their load easier every day he was there.<br /><br />These early starts would get him a jump on the day and get him finished with us early each morning before heading off to whatever other task was ahead for the day which on most occasion was more work whether at the Tweed River Jockey Club or other place where he could help and be of use to others.&nbsp; There are stories of him having more jobs than even his closest family or friends knew about and that was just him.&nbsp; Working and helping others was what set him apart as a person.<br /><br /><br /><br /><img src="https://www.prism.horse/api/public/image/b6bd0389c93b4989849974fd431f27be.png" alt="" /><br /><br />We understand that Baz trained a few horses along the way. The story goes that he trained for our great friend and a man who has given a large part of his life to racing Bernie Quinn and what a pair they would have been.&nbsp; We can only imagine the back and forward between them at that time.&nbsp; Great times for both of these great men we're sure.<br /><br />2.30am is a hell of a time to start your day we know that, but Baz arrived every day with a smile, a story, a one liner and he was happy to share all of it.&nbsp; He disarmed and relaxed the staff and they all looked up to Barry and the little words of encouragement he gave to the young ones when things felt tough for them were always greatly appreciated.<br /><br />He will live on in the stories that we and the staff share, the lessons he imparted upon us and the love that he shared.<br /><br /><br /><br /><img src="https://www.prism.horse/api/public/image/235515bd08e540fe9ddc9b5d556d2eed.png" alt="" /><br /><br /><br /><br />We heard him say "Que ser sera" hundreds of times at the stable of a morning and we think that summed Baz up pretty well.&nbsp; He was exactly that with everything we saw of him.&nbsp; Whatever will be, will be.<br /><br />Rest in peace Barry. Your memory will forever remain with us.

<p><em>OTI&rsquo;s General Manager, Shayne Driscoll, counts down his Top 10 Memorable Moments across the 2023/24 Racing Season.</em></p>
<p><strong>Number 6 &ndash; Cepheus&rsquo; Sizzling Spring</strong></p>
<p>Cepheus caused somewhat of a boilover in the autumn of &rsquo;23 when winning the Group 2 Ajax Stakes. Heading into the spring of this racing season, with a Big Dance ticket secured and having had a small let-up only across the late-winter period, we were unsure of his ceiling and excited by what this talented but injury-plagued galloper may achieve. Owner expectations were blown out of the water by what his campaign would produce.</p>
<p>His G2 Shannon Stakes victory (highlighted within Memorable Moment #7) was followed by his biggest payday when taking out the $1.5m Alan Brown Stakes at Rosehill, courtesy of yet another Nash Rawiller special.</p>
<p>He would then head to the $2m Big Dance carrying the unenviable impost of 62kg. He would start favourite, despite carrying 4kg more than all other contenders and 5.5kg more than the eventual winner, Attractable. Finishing 2nd beaten just 1.17 lengths, his effort was outstanding and capped off a sizzling spring.</p>

<p>Cepheus has again secured a ticket to the Big Dance in November, courtesy of his July South Grafton Cup victory. Let&rsquo;s hope he can go one better.</p>

<p>That's effectively what trainer&nbsp;<strong><a href="https://www.racingandsports.com/thoroughbred/trainer/matthew-dunn-6078" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Matthew Dunn</a></strong>&nbsp;regards as being the advantage of waiting two weeks to give&nbsp;<strong><a href="https://www.racingandsports.com/thoroughbred/horse/cranky-harry/1970068" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cranky Harry</a></strong>&nbsp;his chance to win a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tab.com.au/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TAB</a>&nbsp;Highway (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.</p>
<p>Dunn accepted with Cranky Harry a fortnight ago with 63kg and when he drew the outside he elected not to make the trip. That Highway was run under handicap conditions, Saturday's race is a set weights Plate event so he can't get any more than the 59kg.</p>
<p>"If he'd drawn well he probably would have run (two weeks ago) but the 63kg and barrier 22 kind of decided it,'' Dunn said.</p>
<p>"He gets in so well, we've got&nbsp;<strong><a href="https://www.racingandsports.com/thoroughbred/jockey/nash-rawiller/3404" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nash Rawiller</a></strong>&nbsp;and it's like having a 4kg claim."</p>
<p>Dunn has trained 37 Highway winners so far as the series approaches its 400th running.</p>
<p>Cranky Harry,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tab.com.au/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$2</a>&nbsp;favourite with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tab.com.au/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TAB</a>&nbsp;on Friday, arrives at Randwick with three runs under his belt and a tickover trial to bridge the gap since his narrow defeat at Doomben on June 5.</p>
<p>"He's only had three starts for me and should have won all three,'' Dunn said.</p>
<p>"He was really unlucky first-up on a heavy track, so if the track is soft it shouldn't hurt him, he won second-up then the other day he got stuck and missed the boat a bit.</p>
<p>"He's quite a nice horse, he had a good trial the other day and I'm happy with him. He should be hard to beat."</p>
<p>The Murwillumbah trainer said while Cranky Harry's last run was over 1350m he believes the mile will be right up his alley.</p>
<p>"I don't think it will be a problem, he has a relaxed racing style and I don't think a mile will be an issue,'' he said.</p>
<p>"He was almost looking for a mile last start because he didn't put himself in the race and that's what cost him. He didn't show enough early speed to find a spot and couldn't take advantage of his inside gate."</p>
<p>Stablemate Perovic provides Dunn with a worthy back-up though he concedes he's not bringing the same strength of form into the race as the favourite has.</p>
<p>The three-year-old was formerly trained in Victoria and scored at his third start for Dunn in a 1523m Class 3 at Lismore almost a month ago.</p>
<p>"He was very good winning last start obviously coming out of not as strong a race as Cranky Harry,'' he said.</p>
<p>"His first two runs for me were disappointing but he really stepped up last start, he was three deep the trip with no cover and won convincingly.</p>
<p>"My concern with him is maybe it's not far enough, he might want to go further already. If he reproduces what he did at Lismore he will run well."</p>
<p>Consideration was given to waiting until an 1800m Highway in two weeks but Dunn said when Perovic drew well it was hard not to make the trip.</p>
